December 29, 2021  Leicester Defeat Liverpool As Salah Has Penalty Saved

Leicester defeated Liverpool 1-0, leaving the Reds six points off the top of the Premier League table. Ademola Lookman scored the game’s only goal.

The Reds’ best chance came in the first half, when Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel in the 15th minute and then headed the rebound over the bar.

After that, Sadio Mane wasted a few chances for Jurgen Klopp’s side until the hosts made them pay in the 59th minute.

With only his fourth touch after coming on, former Everton attacker Lookman received Kiernan Dewsbury-pass Hall’s in his stride, beat Joel Matip, and rifled a shot past Alisson – Leicester’s sole shot on target.

Leicester held on against late Liverpool pressure despite missing numerous first-team players – just six days after blowing a 3-1 lead to lose on penalties to the same opponents in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Liverpool are now six points behind Manchester City after their second defeat of the season, while Leicester, who have won only two of their seven games, have moved up to ninth place.

If Pep Guardiola’s City win Brentford and Chelsea at least draw with Brighton on Wednesday, the Reds may finish third in 2021, nine points behind the leaders.
