October 19, 2022 Laycon Becomes A Member Of Grammy Voting Committee

Laycon, a Nigerian rapper, has joined the Grammy voting committee. On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, the Grammys announced the news on their official Twitter account.

The Grammy voting members include recording artists, performers, composers, producers, engineers, instrumentalists, and other music industry innovators.

Voting Membership is available to current music industry artists, composers, producers, engineers, instrumentalists, and other innovators.

To qualify to become a member of the voting academy, such an individual must have creative or technical credits on at least six commercially released tracks on a physical music release or 12 on a digital album. An individual who falls short of these requirements may still apply to become a voting member with an endorsement from at least two current Recording Academy voting members.

According to Billboard, about 12,000 of the Academy's total 21,00 members are eligible to vote.

To select the winner, voters go through two voting stages. The first stage is the nomination procedure, in which voters get ballots and vote in areas of competence, including the major four categories (Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best New Artist).

Following the nomination procedure, the voters will get the final shortlist and vote in areas of their competence, including the main four categories.
