September 13, 2023 Lauretta Onochie: Arresting Peter Obi Won’t Cause Disaster

Former Chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs. Lauretta Onochie, has urged authorities to investigate and potentially arrest Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Onochie alleges that Obi is playing a role in inciting violence following the 2023 presidential election.

Expressing her concerns via her X account in response to a video shared by Abubakar Sidiq Usman, Onochie calls on both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police to take action. She questions the intensity of Obi's pursuit of the presidency, particularly given his third-place finish in the election.

Onochie contends that since the declaration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obi's running mate, Dr. Datti Baba Ahmed, and others she describes as 'unpatriotic angry birds,' have allegedly been attempting to incite youth towards violence. She commends the majority of Nigerian youth for choosing to remain sensible and peaceful.

Furthermore, Onochie asserts that Obi's pursuit of legal action through the tribunal and attempts to use the Labour movement to obstruct the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal demonstrate his desperation. She questions Obi's relentless quest for power despite finishing third in the race.

In conclusion, Onochie insists that it is imperative for authorities to thoroughly investigate Peter Obi's alleged involvement in inciting violence. She emphasizes that holding him accountable will not lead to catastrophic consequences.
