Lamine Yamal, a Barcelona teen sensation, engraved his name in the sands of time with his assist for Barcelona during their La Liga match against Villarreal on Sunday afternoon.
Yamal set up another of Barcelona’s young stars, Gavi, with a lofted cross into the box, which the latter deftly completed to give La Blaugrana the lead.
After 12 minutes, the Yamal-Gavi combination put Xavi Hernandez’s charges ahead. While the advantage was crucial for the defending La Liga winners, it was also a watershed moment for Lamine.
According to Opta, Yamal became the youngest player in the 21st century to record a La Liga assist at the age of 16 and 45 days.
By passing Ansu Fati, another La Masia alumnus and current holder of the legendary No.10 shirt, the 16-year-old became the youngest player in La Liga this century.
