The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has sealed off Ikeja Golf Club due to negligence and disregard for public safety. In a statement released Wednesday, LASBCA's Director of Public Affairs, Adu Ademuyiwa, explained that the closure followed multiple complaints about safety lapses at the club.
“The Lagos State Building Control Agency has taken decisive action by sealing off the Ikeja Golf Club on Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, after repeated incidents of negligence raised serious concerns for public safety, lives, and property,” the statement said. LASBCA cited a recent incident where a golf ball from the club struck a LASBCA staff member at their Ikeja headquarters, along with numerous complaints of stray balls damaging vehicles in the area.
According to the agency, the club’s management had been repeatedly instructed to install protective netting or modify play areas to prevent accidents, but no action was taken. LASBCA General Manager Gbolahan Oki expressed disappointment, criticizing the club for its disregard for public safety. "It’s concerning to witness such negligence from a reputable establishment. Persistent disregard for safety regulations, particularly when it endangers lives and property, is unacceptable," Oki stated.
Oki emphasized that the club’s failure to implement preventive safety measures is a violation of safety regulations. He added that Ikeja Golf Club would remain closed until adequate safety measures are in place to protect residents and visitors from preventable risks.
