July 18, 2024 Lagos Denies Return Of Monthly Sanitation Programme

The Lagos State Government debunk viral news circulating on social media claiming the reintroduction of the monthly environmental sanitation program. In a statement signed by Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, the government clarified that there would be no restriction of movement on the last Saturday in July, contrary to widespread speculation.

Wahab attributed the false report to "mischief makers" intent on misleading residents. He urged the public to disregard the viral news and continue with their regular activities.

Wahab explained that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during a sanitation sensitization exercise at Campos playground in Lagos Island, announced the launch of a weekly community-based sensitization and awareness exercise involving all residents.

"The Governor also stated that State Government officials will lead from the front every week by joining residents in voluntarily cleaning their environment while spreading the message," Wahab clarified.

He emphasized that at no time did the governor announce the start of the monthly exercise or any related restrictions in July or any other month for now. Wahab encouraged residents to consistently maintain the cleanliness of their surroundings and not wait for a specific government-declared sanitation day or movement restriction.
