The State Government has cancelled the 50% transport fare reduction on all Public Transport Systems that was implemented in response to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directive in a bid to cushion the effects of subsidy removal on Lagosians.
The Governor had on July 31 announced the fare reduction, noting that it would affect all state-owned buses by 50% and commercial yellow buses by 25%.
In a public notice, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) announced a reversion to the old rates of public transport.
The statement informed commuters that starting today, Monday, November 6, 2023, transport fares will return to the pre-2nd August 2023 rate.
It also advised Lagos residents to take note of the change and get prepared to pay regular transport fare rates before the reduction was announced in July and took effect in August.
