The displaced residents of illegal structures and shanties around Jakande Estate and Maiyegun in Lekki have been speaking about the hardship that the demolition exercise has brought upon their households.

The state government embarked on the clearance operation after giving an immediate quit notice at the weekend.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on GIS and Urban Development, Olajide Babatunde, said the move was to recover the coastal road path for the Lagos-Calabar Highway project and to promote the urban renewal of the affected areas.

Correspondent NIFESIMI OLABIYI visited the site of the demolition and spoke to some former occupants.
