December 4, 2023 Julius Berger Hands Over Second Niger Bridge To FG

Julius Berger, the renowned construction giant and contractor responsible for the Second Niger Bridge, has officially delivered the multi-billion-naira project to the Federal Government.

The handover took place in a concise ceremony held at the toll area of the bridge. During this event, Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, expressed his contentment with the project, confirming that Julius Berger had successfully repaired the vandalized portions.

Umahi also highlighted that the bridge is now available for concession to private companies willing to complete ancillary roads, toll collection, and the recovery of investments. He suggested that modalities are in progress to alleviate traffic congestion at both the old and new bridges, particularly during the upcoming festive period.

Stretching over 1.6 kilometres, the Second Niger Bridge serves as a crucial link between Anambra and Delta states. Interestingly, the initial proposal for this significant infrastructure project was made during the 1978–79 political campaign by Shehu Shagari, then a candidate for the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
