The minority caucus of the House of Reps has joined its Senate counterpart to hand President Muhammadu Buhari a six-week ultimatum to fix insecurity or face impeachment in the National Assembly.
Minority leader of the House of Reps, Ndudi Elumelu, disclosed this after a closed door meeting of PDP lawmakers in the upper and lower legislative Chambers, a day after PDP Senators staged a walkout during plenary when the motion to discuss the impeachment of President Buhari was turned down.
Addressing journalists, Elumelu said the signatures will be gathered to impeach the President if the security situation is not addressed.
He also drew attention to the general state of the nation, including the exchange rate and aviation crisis.
On his part, Senate minority leader, Philip Aduda said in a bicameral legislature, as it is in Nigeria, there was a need for both Chambers to be on the same page for as regards impeaching a president. Hence, the minority caucus in the lower Chamber was called for a proper briefing.
