August 30, 2022 “I’m A Gentle Man With A Very Rough Edge” – Brymo

I’m A Gentle Man with A Very Rough Edge.

Brymo began, as he shared information about his life and career with the lunchtime OAPS in the Colorful studio interview after a list of Nigerian artists.

Brymo, Nigerian singer, songwriter, stage performer and author, with Joanna Mustapha and Ebuka Ezekiel talked about why he had to abandon the “musicianship”, meaning relationships with musicians apart from personal relationships,  for his sonic artistry and how he thinks it made him stand out from other artists, hence, the result and many awards.

“Being a sonic artist makes it easier to explain what I do, especially cause of the constant shifting from Yoruba, pidgin, English and concepts all the time”

He believes tagging his music "sonic artistry" gives him a better edge to freely create in an industry where there is variety of genre like rock, afrobeat, highlife and more.

The Son of a Kapenta album singer, appreciates his background, claiming that he could have turned out to be anything as low as a bus conductor to being a fraudster in the Okokomaiko setting, but his music singled him out.

Brymo recently returned with a new album titled, Theta! It carries the powerful vocals of Brymo with which he communicates his deep thoughts and that touches on didactic, cultural, poetic, spiritual, and emotional subjects.

What do we have to say about Brymo? He is one of the realest, open and intelligent artists in Nigeria.
