Having burst onto the mainstream scene in 2021 with the hit single 'Zazzu Zeh,' featuring Olamide and Poco Lee, Portable has maintained his presence in the media with his bold and sometimes controversial actions.
In a recent appearance, Portable openly discussed his stance on awards, revealing that he's willing to purchase them if he's not awarded based on merit.
In 2022, Portable's achievements earned him two nominations at the Headies Awards for Rookie of the Year and Best Street Hop, owing to his track 'Zazzu Zeh.' However, his journey was marred by controversy as he was later disqualified from the awards for violating the Headies' code of conduct. This transpired after he verbally threatened fellow nominees and engaged in a physical altercation with DJ Chicken.
When questioned about his views on awards, Portable expressed his unreserved approach: "If they don't give me an award, I'll buy it... My music will generate the money for me to purchase an award," he said in Pidgin English.
Following his loss to Goya Menor in the Headies Street Pop category, Portable criticised the Headies Academy for selecting an artist whose song lacks recognition on the streets.
Still stung by his disqualification, Portable predicted that the brands that deny him awards now would eventually approach him, requesting payment for awards.
