December 4, 2023 I Cried Every Day Before My Parents Let Me Do Music – Tyla

South African songstress Tyla, also known as Tyla Laura Seethal, recently opened up about the challenges she faced convincing her parents to support her musical aspirations.

Despite their initial reluctance to consider music a viable profession, the 'Water' singer eventually gained their approval after persistent efforts, including days of tearful appeals.

During a recent interview in Los Angeles, U.S.A., Tyla shared, My parents weren't overly strict about my choices, but they were adamant about me going to the studio instead of pursuing a traditional job. They believed that music was more of a hobby than a legitimate career.

So, I had to cry every day and express my sincere desire to pursue this path. I made it clear that there was nothing else I wanted to do. Convincing them was challenging, especially because success stories in music are not as common in South Africa.

Many aspiring female musicians faced obstacles. My parents, understandably, were trying to protect me. However, I demonstrated to them my unwavering commitment to a career in music.
