Lagos experienced heavy rainfall early Wednesday morning, leading to significant flooding across the city and disrupting daily routines for many residents. The downpour started abruptly, catching Lagosians off guard and inundating roads.

Workers in Nigeria’s commercial hub faced immense challenges getting to their workplaces as major routes like Iyana-Oworo and Olopo Meji leading to the 3rd Mainland Bridge were heavily flooded. This resulted in extensive traffic jams stretching as far as Alapere.

Despite braving the rain, commuters found themselves stranded at various bus stops as they attempted to navigate through the city. Motorists endured prolonged travel times, particularly on the route from Alapere to Third Mainland Bridge, which was severely affected by the floods.

In Oshodi, near the Airport U-turn, a falling tree added to the chaos, prompting swift action from Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) personnel who cleared the obstruction to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety.

Acknowledging the situation, Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, assured the public that ministry teams were deployed to monitor and clear the flash floods at the Olopomeji section of Iyana Oworo. He expressed gratitude to motorists for their patience and reported that the roads were now clear of water, restoring normalcy to affected areas.
