Renowned singer-songwriter Harrysong, a prominent figure in the Nigerian music industry, has garnered widespread acclaim for his hit records and exceptional songwriting skills, earning numerous accolades over the years.
In a recent development concerning his ongoing dispute with former label boss KCEE, Harrysong has turned to his social media platforms to seek the support of Nigerians in his quest to reclaim his rightful royalties. Taking to his Instagram story, Harrysong revealed that KCEE, the head of his former label, Five Star Records, has retained 100% of the royalties from some of his most significant releases under the label.
The affected records, including 'Reggae Blues,' 'Baba For The Girls,' 'Samankwe,' 'Better Pikin,' and 'Ofeshe,' have allegedly been subject to KCEE's exclusive collection of all associated royalties. In a plea to his audience, Harrysong implored everyone to assist him in persuading Kingsley Okonkwo, popularly known as KCEE, to refund his money and release his songs.
Expressing his frustration on his Instagram story, Harrysong stated, "At least he can take his percentage and give me what is rightfully mine." This marks the latest development in an ongoing dispute with his former label associates.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post featuring a screenshot of his Instagram story, Harrysong emphasized his right to what is rightfully his, urging Nigerians to join him in appealing to KCEE for resolution.
The Nigerian music industry has witnessed a surge in disputes between artists and labels concerning the nonpayment of royalties. Notably, Dami Krane recently accused Davido of withholding royalties for a collaborative song, a claim denied by both Davido and producer Shizzi, as the song was revealed to be Dami Krane's creation.
Similarly, following his departure from Marlian Records, the late Street Hop star Mohbad disclosed that he had not received any royalties for his records released under the label, underscoring the prevalent challenges artists face in securing their rightful earnings.
