On Tuesday night, gunmen killed a police officer in Imo State, an attack that took place at NEPA Junction in Umulogho, Obowo Local Government Area. The assailants reportedly dragged the officer out of his room before killing him.
According to an eyewitness, the gunmen meticulously ensured no other police officers were present in the compound. "They carried out their operation for about 45 minutes without any interference, firing shots to keep residents at bay," the eyewitness recounted.
After the night attack, the gunmen returned in the morning to burn down the Otoko Divisional Police Station, located along the Owerri-Umuahia road. The violence continued with multiple attacks, as the gunmen killed two security guards in Umuelemai, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, and set several vehicles on fire.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, assured the public that those responsible for the crimes would be apprehended and face justice. He added that the command’s tactical team had been deployed to the area to ensure the safety of lives and property.
