January 10, 2019 GOVERNORS SAYS STATES LACK CAPACITY TO PAY NEW MINIMUM WAGE

The controversy over issues of the new minimum wage may linger longer than expected as the Nigerian Governor’s Forum is insisting that most states cannot meet the demands by the organized labour.

Unions have settled for 30,000 naira minimum pay against the 24,000 naira that federal government is proposing.

But the Chairman of the Governor’s Forum and Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari told journalists after the forum’s meeting that the nation’s economy is unstable and wants workers to be patient.

Meanwhile, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba has maintained that there is no going back on the minimum wage increment being pushed by the union.

He insists that the minimum wage negotiations with government has been concluded with recommendations reached.
