October 4, 2024 Gov Eno Mourns Wife: “She Embodied All the Virtues of a Perfect Woman”

Governor Umo Eno has spoken out for the first time since the passing of his wife, Pastor Patience Umo-Eno, expressing deep sorrow over her death. In a heartfelt statement released on Friday, the Akwa Ibom State Governor described his late wife as "everything a man could ever wish for in a virtuous woman," adding that he would "miss her for a lifetime."

Nine days after her unexpected passing, Governor Eno shared his grief over losing his wife of 38 years, calling her his "prayer partner, counsellor, cheerleader, best critic, homemaker, and permanently smiling."

Titled "We Are Perplexed But Not In Despair," inspired by 2 Corinthians 4:8, the statement expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and condolences the family has received from all corners of the nation. "The incredible outpouring of love, support, prayers, and words of encouragement through phone calls and messages of condolence and visits since the unexpected sunset that befell us has truly strengthened us," he wrote.

Governor Eno specifically thanked President Bola Tinubu and Akwa Ibomites, acknowledging the rare show of unity and love, especially from the youth, who suspended their planned national protests to honor his late wife. He also extended gratitude to political figures from all sides who paused campaign activities in her memory.

He reassured the public that all initiatives led by his wife, including the Golden Initiative for All (GIFA), would continue and be expanded, stating, "Our focus will not be shifted from rendering services to our people with renewed strength, as this is what Kemi always prayed for."

Eno also commended security agencies for maintaining peace during this difficult time and urged them to continue their vigilance as the state approaches local government elections.

As the family continues to navigate this period of great loss and grief, Governor Eno asked for continued respect for their privacy, promising that burial arrangements would be announced at the appropriate time. He concluded, "We will not mourn as those who have no hope in Christ Jesus."
