June 14, 2023 Former Chelsea Player, Manager Hollins Dies At 76

Hollins, who made his debut in 1963, holds an impressive record of 592 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 64 goals during his two spells at Stamford Bridge.

He was an integral part of the team that achieved remarkable success, including winning the FA Cup, European Cup Winners' Cup, and League Cup in his first stint with the club, which concluded in 1975.

Regarded as a hero by Chelsea fans, Hollins left an indelible mark on the club. Chelsea board member Daniel Finkelstein expressed his admiration, saying, "He was at the heart of one of Chelsea's greatest teams and, in addition to contributing to its trophy success, he embodied its spirit."

Hollins, ranking fifth on Chelsea's all-time appearances list, also represented QPR and Arsenal before returning to Stamford Bridge in 1983 for his final playing spell. He earned one cap for England in 1967.

Following his playing career, Hollins took on managerial roles at various clubs, including Swansea, Rochdale, and Stockport. He served as Chelsea's manager from 1985 to 1988.

Chris Hollins, John's son, speaking on behalf of the family, shared their sentiments: "John was always modest about his role in Chelsea's history. He joined the club at the age of 15 and went on to win trophies with those incredible teams of the '60s and '70s.

He had many stories, but he always emphasized how much he loved stepping onto the pitch at the Bridge and wearing the famous blue shirt. We will miss him as a husband, a father, and a grandfather, and we will forever be proud of his accomplishments in the game."
