Nigerian music star Fireboy DML has weighed in on the age-old football rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana, declaring that the Black Stars currently have the edge over the Super Eagles.
Speaking during a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, the “Obaa Sima” hitmaker acknowledged Nigeria’s abundance of individual talent but pointed out that Ghana performs better as a cohesive unit.
“Right now, Ghana is a better team than Nigeria’s Super Eagles,” Fireboy said. “Individually, we [Nigerians] are better. But as a team, Ghana is better.”
He went on to express frustration over Nigeria’s inability to gel its top talents into a unified force:
“For some reason, we haven’t been able to combine the brilliance of each player to form a solid team. We have a lot of talents, but we’ve not been able to utilize them.”
Highlighting the difference, Fireboy praised Ghana’s midfield, particularly Thomas Partey:
“Unlike Ghana, we don’t have a good midfield. Thomas Partey alone — we don’t have a midfield to battle that. You saw how Partey handled Real Madrid during Arsenal’s Champions League clash. We don’t have that.”
Fans won’t have to wait long to see the rivalry reignite, as Nigeria and Ghana are set to face off next month in the 2025 Unity Cup in London, United Kingdom.
