A fire broke out early Monday morning at a building owned by Aba Power Electricity Limited in Osisioma Local Government Area, Abia State. The cause of the fire remains unknown, but the affected structure had been largely unused for over 12 years.
Sources revealed that the building was originally used by the now-defunct South African electricity firm, Group 5, during the construction of facilities for the integrated power company. Fortunately, the incident did not disrupt power generation or distribution within the Aba ring-fenced area.
In an official statement, Aba Power's management confirmed that staff acted swiftly to contain the fire before the Abia State Fire Service arrived.
“There was a fire outbreak this morning in a temporary building within the premises of Geometric Power, Nigeria’s leading integrated power company," the statement read. "The structure, previously utilized by Group 5, has seen little use for over a decade. While the cause of the fire is still being investigated, Geometric Power staff managed to control the flames before the state fire service's prompt arrival."
The management praised its staff for their vigilance and commended the Abia State Fire Service for its quick and professional response. Additionally, they expressed gratitude to the public for their concern and support.
Reaffirming its commitment to reliable electricity supply, Geometric Power assured residents that it remains dedicated to providing quality and affordable power to the Aba Power ring-fenced area and beyond.
