A fierce blaze tore through the bustling Alesinloye Market in Ibadan Southwest Local Government Area, leaving traders reeling from the loss of goods valued at millions. The early morning inferno struck with ferocity, devastating the livelihoods of merchants and stunning the surrounding community, according to eyewitness accounts.
Swift action by the Oyo State Fire Service, bolstered by support teams from nearby SUMAL and Sweetco companies, managed to contain the fire’s rampant spread. Despite their efforts, the full scope of the destruction remained unclear at the time of this report.
A local source lamented that the damage could have been significantly reduced if the market had its own dedicated fire station. The absence of such a facility, they argued, exacerbated the situation.
Confirming the incident, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, provided an update on Wednesday. “Our team is still on the ground at Alesinloye Market,” he stated. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to SWEETCO’s management for deploying their truck and crew to assist. The scale of this fire was immense.”
Akinyinka also expressed gratitude to Sumal for dispatching their personnel to the scene, adding, “We owe a deep debt of appreciation to both SWEETCO and Sumal for their invaluable support. At this time, due to logistical constraints, the management is unable to address individual inquiries.”
Efforts to manage the aftermath continue as the community grapples with the fallout of this catastrophic event.
