The Academic Staff Union of Universities' (ASUU) national leadership has announced that a meeting would be held shortly to discuss the Federal Government's payment of its members' October half-salaries.

The Chairman of ASUU at the University of Lagos, Dr. Dele Ashiru, claimed in a statement headlined "Payment of Amputated and Crippled October Salary" that the union's leadership has received a flood of calls from members who are upset over what seems to be the prorated payment of their salaries.

The No Work, No Pay policy was enforced during the strike by university employees because the federal government insisted on it.

However, the statement said that it is callous and demoralizing that a purportedly democratic government can be so ruthless, careless, and inhumane in its treatment of the brightest members of its community.

Dr. Ashiru called it a "national catastrophe" and said that the Union's national leadership is on top of the problem.

He nonetheless exhorted the group to maintain their composure and wait for additional instructions from the National Secretariat.
