February 11, 2025 FG Approves $1.7bn Hope Projects to Boost Healthcare in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved $1.7 billion for two major healthcare initiatives: the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equity—Governance (HOPE-GOVERNANCE) project and the Primary Health Care Provision Strengthening (HOPE-PHC) project.

The approval was granted during a recent Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The HOPE-PHC project is designed to enhance access to quality essential healthcare services and improve the resilience of Nigeria’s health system. Meanwhile, the HOPE-GOVERNANCE project will drive governance reforms, focusing on:

  • Healthcare financing improvements
  • Enhanced transparency and accountability
  • Better recruitment, deployment, and performance management of primary healthcare workers at the federal, state, and local government levels

The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will oversee the HOPE-PHC project, while the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning will implement the HOPE-GOVERNANCE project.

These initiatives mark a significant step toward strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system and ensuring better service delivery across the country.
