PROGRAMME AIMED AT MAXIMISING THE GAS DEPOSIT IN THE COUNTRY.
The Federal Government has rolled out an autogas programme called the National Gas Expansion Programme.
The programme involves the conversion of fuel-powered cars, generators from petrol to gas and aimed at deepening domestic usage of natural gas in its various forms in the country.
The programme is expected to extend operations to all states of the Federation.
It is also in line with the Federal Government’s plan to make gas the first choice source of cheaper and cleaner energy.
While attending the event held in Lugbe, Abuja, virtually from the villa, President BUHARI said it is time for Nigeria ranked the 9th among countries with Gas deposit to fully maximize its potentials.
On his part, the Minister of State for Petroleum, TIMIPRE SYLVA disclosed that the programme will create two million jobs in the first instance.
For the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, MELE KYARI, the initiative was to reduce huge amount spent by Nigerians on fuel.
Our correspondent reports that five Gas powered Transport buses and ten converted buses were launched at the event with some handed over to the Nigeria Labour Congress.
The Federal Government Autogas program is expected to deliver at least one million vehicle conversions by the end of 2021.
