In the early hours of Saturday near Mowe, three individuals lost their lives in a devastating accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The incident was reportedly caused by a container falling off a truck with the number plate T-1563 LA, colliding with a Howo truck carrying three occupants without a visible number plate.
According to Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), dangerous driving leading to a loss of control was a contributing factor to the crash. Despite efforts by the FRSC rescue team to save the lives of the victims, including the driver and two passengers, the impact of the injury proved fatal. The remains of the victims were deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.
The official statement from the FRSC described the rescue operation around 0107 hrs, involving two vehicles – a Bluebird with registration number T-15636LA and a HowoTruck with no visible number plate. All three male occupants of the Howo truck succumbed to their injuries caused by the fallen container.
A tow truck and crane were summoned to alleviate traffic congestion by removing the affected vehicles and container. The FRSC emphasized the importance of defensive driving and adherence to traffic rules, urging motorists to anticipate the actions of others to prevent accidents on the road.
