June 24, 2024 Falz Reflects On His Journey, New Projects, And Nigeria’s Challenges In An Exclusive Interview On Inspiration FM

Folarin Falana, better known by his stage name Falz, is a Nigerian rapper, songwriter, and actor. He began his career in secondary school after forming a group called The School Boys with his friend. His professional music career began in 2009. Recently, he had an interview on the Lunchtime Show with Kolade Dominate and Ebuka Ezekiel on Inspiration FM.

When asked if he was still in touch with The School Boys, he said he was in semi-contact with one member but only randomly checked on the others, as it had been a long time. Ebuka asked if he ever imagined he would become this successful. Falz replied that he never imagined he would reach this point and that it all still feels like an adventure. Reflecting on his early days, he mentioned that his partner and manager was always pushing and investing in him.

Falz also spoke about his father's reaction to his career choice, despite having studied law. He had to finish university and attend law school to earn his certificate before discussing his music aspirations with his father. Surprisingly, his father supported him immediately, likely because he already had a law certificate. While pursuing music, Falz continued practicing law, leading a sort of double life. He reminisced about "Industry Night," an event where artists performed to reach their target audiences.

Regarding his music, particularly the song "Ndi Nke," Falz has always stayed true to his art and sounds. When asked who wrote his verse, he laughed and explained that he doesn’t speak the complex part of Igbo. He gave a shoutout to Zoro for helping him write and learn the verse. Asked about his thoughts on Odumodu Blvck, Falz praised his sound and character, emphasizing that his music is not related to cultism.

Speaking about his new projects, "Before The Feast" and "The Feast," Falz discussed the people he has worked with and his choice of producers. He said, “The realm we're going into is one that has never been explored before. I do not know how the music will be received, but I am very excited to enter this new realm.”

When asked about the lack of controversy in his new EP, Falz confirmed it was intentional. Discussing his relationship with Simi, he said that when they started working together, he knew Simi was in a relationship with AG. They enjoyed the internet's speculation and went with the flow, but despite his statements, the internet still doesn't believe him, even though Simi now has her own family.

When asked about the current situation in Nigeria, Falz expressed his dismay, stating, “It's sad! And right now, sad is even an understatement. We have reached a point where people are at rock bottom; it’s horrible.” He is surprised there hasn't been an uprising yet.
