Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, experienced a tragic event on Monday morning when a massive tree toppled over, claiming a woman's life and leaving ten others injured.
The unfortunate incident occurred as the victims were waiting by the roadside near Baystar petrol station in the Zango-Kulende area, opposite Oke-Andi junction, Ilorin while waiting for transportation.
The incident, which occurred around 8 a.m., created chaos in the area, with the woman tragically losing her life at the scene. Additionally, the falling tree severed electricity cables and caused damage to nearby shops. Fortunately, some shop owners in the vicinity and a vulcaniser named Malam Abdulrasheed narrowly escaped harm, as they had not yet opened for business at the time of the incident.
The injured individuals were swiftly transported to the nearby Olutayo Clinic behind the Baystar petrol station. While some received treatment and were subsequently discharged, those in critical condition were referred to the Government General Hospital and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Oke-Oyi.
To address the situation, saw millers were engaged to clear the fallen tree and its aftermath.
