An explosion at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyi community, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has claimed the life of one student and left four others critically injured.
The incident occurred around noon on Monday, January 6, 2025, sparking panic in the community, situated approximately 42 kilometers from Abuja’s city center.
Emergency response teams, including the police bomb disposal unit, swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the situation. The injured victims were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
Preliminary reports suggest the deceased student may have been carrying an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that detonated unexpectedly.
Security officials have yet to release an official statement on the incident. Attempts to reach the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, for clarification were unsuccessful as calls and messages remained unanswered.
The explosion has left the community in shock as investigations into the cause and circumstances surrounding the tragedy continue.
