August 8, 2022 Ese Brume Strikes Gold, Breaks Commonwealth Games Record

Nigeria’s Ese Brume on Sunday night finished tops in the Women’s Long Jump final at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Brume jumped a total of 7.00meters ahead of Australia’s Brooke Buschkuehl and Ghana’s Deborah Acquah to win the women’s long jump final breaking the commonwealth record.

With this feat, Brume took Nigeria’s medals haul to 35, 12 gold, 9 silver and 14 bronze.

Brume, who overcame illnesses to grab the silver medal at World Championship in Oregon, Eugene, United States, started her campaign on a brilliant note, after recording a 6.81m (+0.3) jump to gain automatic qualification in Group B.

Brume’s teammate, Ruth Usoro finished sixth with 6.58meters jump in the final.
