Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-match touchline ban following his red card in the heated 2-2 draw against Everton on Wednesday.
Liverpool was on the verge of extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to nine points, but James Tarkowski’s stunning stoppage-time volley denied them victory. The late equalizer sparked chaotic scenes, with Abdoulaye Doucoure’s wild celebrations in front of the away fans leading to a confrontation with Curtis Jones, resulting in both players being sent off.
As tensions escalated, supporters broke onto the pitch, prompting intervention from stewards and police. In the aftermath, Slot and his assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, were also dismissed by referee Michael Oliver.
According to a Premier League statement:
“Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language. He is handed a two-match touchline ban as a result.”
Slot will now miss Liverpool’s home game against Wolves on Sunday and their trip to Aston Villa on February 19. Meanwhile, Doucoure and Jones will serve one-match bans.
The draw, which marked the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park before Everton's move to a new stadium, leaves Liverpool seven points clear of Arsenal with 14 games remaining in the title race.
