October 7, 2024 EPL: Jhon Durán Extends Contract With Aston Villa

Aston Villa has announced that striker Jhon Durán has signed a new contract, securing his stay at the club until 2030. The 20-year-old Colombian forward has been in outstanding form this season, netting six goals, including a decisive strike in Villa's memorable Champions League victory over Bayern Munich last Wednesday.

In a statement released on Monday, the club expressed their delight: "Aston Villa are thrilled to announce that Jhon Durán has signed a new contract with the club until 2030. The 20-year-old has been in excellent form, scoring six times, including the match-winning goal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League."

Durán has also played a key role in Villa’s Premier League campaign, scoring vital goals in matches against West Ham, Leicester City, and Everton, with the latter featuring a spectacular long-range effort. Since joining from MLS side Chicago Fire in January 2023, he has quickly become an essential part of the squad.

With his unpredictable playmaking ability and goal-scoring prowess, Durán has earned high praise from Villa's manager, Unai Emery, who has predicted that the young forward could become a £100 million player. His emergence as one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents has drawn interest from over 30 European clubs, including Chelsea, West Ham, AC Milan, and Sporting, but Villa remained determined to keep hold of the rising star.

Durán's journey from Medellín, Colombia, to the Premier League has been remarkable, having been scouted by Chicago Fire's technical director Sebastian Pelzer in 2020. His impressive physical attributes and speed led to a move to MLS for $2 million, setting him on the path to becoming a top striker in European football.
