October 21, 2024 EPL: Arteta Warns Arsenal Players – ‘We Can’t Keep Playing with 10 Men’

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has issued a stern warning to his players, stressing the need to "eradicate" the ill-discipline that has resulted in three red cards during their first eight Premier League games this season.

The latest dismissal came when William Saliba was sent off in Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth last Saturday, following earlier red cards for Declan Rice and Leandro Trossard.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s UEFA Champions League clash with Shakhtar Donetsk, Arteta said, "Playing with 10 men is always an issue. When you analyze it, they are three very different actions with different reasons. Regardless, we cannot keep playing with ten men at this level. We need to eliminate that, it’s clear."

The defeat to Bournemouth marked Arsenal's first loss of the season. Despite previous red cards against Brighton and Manchester City, the Gunners managed to salvage a point in both matches, but Arteta is keen to avoid further setbacks caused by discipline issues.
