Elon Musk, the billionaire and businessman, has once again halted the introduction of Twitter Blue, a premium membership service.
Musk made this announcement on his verified Twitter feed when he declared that the intended November 29th launch date for Twitter Blue is no longer viable.
He highlighted fraudsters' actions in impersonating numerous identities on the site as the reason for delaying the introduction, therefore the necessity to suspend the functionality until "there is great confidence of ending impersonation."
Musk also said that Twitter may use various colors to distinguish between checks for companies and cheques for individuals. Prior to Musk's takeover, all verified accounts had a single consistent blue checkmark.
When Musk took over Twitter, he advocated changing how verified accounts were accepted. He revealed that verified accounts would now be registered under the premium membership service known as Twitter Blue, and that customers who joined up for the function would be charged $8 per month.
When the functionality was finally implemented, TechCrunch characterized it as "utter mayhem."
There were many impersonations since everyone who paid the $8 charge received the verification check, causing widespread confusion on the app as fraudsters created identical profiles with celebrities, corporations, and prominent government entities.
Although the defaulting accounts were shut down and the function was put on hold until the site could free itself of all impersonators, users have questioned Musk's strategy for the network, citing concerns about the spread of disinformation and false news once the subscription plan is implemented.
There have been claims that Musk's proposal threatens the presence of celebrities and authentic platforms on the app, since typical users previously found it quite simple to recognize these verified and genuine accounts with the existence of the check marks.
There are concerns that the checkmark will be exploited since anybody can simply get certified checkmarks for a fee, therefore negating the purpose of the verification.
