On Thursday, the Department of State Services officially announced that the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has been released. This comes after a period of detention that began on June 14, 2023, when the DSS invited him for undisclosed reasons. The invite followed a visit he made to President Bola Tinubu on the same day.
Peter Afunanya, the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the DSS, confirmed Bawa's release in a statement on the agency's official social media account, X (formerly known as Twitter).
"DSS is pleased to confirm the release of former EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa, just a few hours ago, today, on October 25," he announced on X (formerly Twitter).
