April 2, 2025 Direct Flights from Algiers to Abuja Launch on April 6

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs unveiled plans for Air Algérie to launch its first direct flight service from Algiers to Abuja, starting April 6, 2025. This new route is poised to deepen the diplomatic and economic bonds between Nigeria and Algeria, according to a statement from Acting Spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa.

The service, operated by Algeria’s national carrier using a Boeing 737, stems from a Bilateral Air Services Agreement between the two nations. It promises to enhance connectivity, spur tourism, and streamline trade and investment opportunities. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is delighted to announce Air Algérie’s inaugural direct flight from Algiers to Abuja on April 6, 2025,” the statement read. “This landmark step reflects the strengthening ties between Nigeria and Algeria and brings to life the Bilateral Air Services Agreement.”

The ministry commended the Nigerian Embassy in Algiers for its pivotal role in realizing this initiative. The maiden flight will host notable passengers, including the Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Embassy, Nigerian community leaders, and Algerian government officials. The Federal Government congratulated Air Algérie and pledged robust support to ensure the route’s success.

Beyond fostering bilateral ties, the flight offers Nigerians an affordable and strategic link to Europe via Algeria’s proximity, reinforcing Nigeria’s role as a regional hub for business, tourism, and transit. “The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and aviation authorities, warmly congratulates Air Algérie and commits to supporting this venture’s sustainability,” the statement continued. “This service will bolster our enduring friendship with Algeria and unlock new avenues for growth, while providing a cost-effective gateway to Europe.”

The ministry urged citizens and businesses to seize this opportunity to explore trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between Nigeria and Algeria.
