Denmark’s head coach, Brian Riemer, has made it clear where he stands in the GOAT debate, picking Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi.
Speaking ahead of Denmark’s UEFA Nations League quarter-final clash with Portugal, Riemer expressed his admiration for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, highlighting Ronaldo’s enduring quality and impact on the game.
“What a player! I’ve been asked this question so many times—Messi or Ronaldo? For me, it’s Ronaldo every single day. I have always admired him,” Riemer told O Jogo.
The Danish coach acknowledged that while Ronaldo’s style has evolved over the years, he remains a serious threat on the pitch.
“He’s still one of the most dangerous players you can face. Physically, he’s in great shape. He may not be the same player he was before, but that doesn’t make him any less great. He’s just different now, but still a top-class player. We respect him a lot and look forward to the challenge of facing him.”
Denmark will host Portugal in the first leg of their quarter-final tie before traveling to Lisbon for the return fixture on March 23.
