February 14, 2022 Delta State Government Shuts School After Death Of 19-Month-Old Pupil Flogged By Teacher

Delta State government has shut down Arise and Shine Nursery and Primary School in Asaba, after a teacher allegedly flogged a 19-month-old pupil to death.

The teacher, EMEKA NWOGBO, who is the son of the school proprietress had reportedly flogged the toddler, OBINNA UDEZE, on Monday the 7th of February, leaving several marks on his body.

The boy was said to have died at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba on Saturday, 12th of February as a result of the flogging.

The Delta State Commissioner for Basic Education, CHIKA OSSAI said the government’s decision to seal up the affected institution is because the school was not approved as the proprietor does not have an operational license.

However, the accused teacher is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing.
