Two Dead, Several Injured as Lagos Building Collapses

A tragic building collapse in the Ikota area of Lekki, Ajah, Lagos State, has claimed the lives of two people, with several others injured and more feared trapped under the rubble.

The two-storey building, which was under construction, collapsed on Tuesday, leaving five workers seriously injured. According to Ibrahim Farinloye, spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the injured victims have been rushed to the hospital, while the remains of the deceased—an adult male and a young boy—have been recovered.

“Rescue teams have so far pulled out five adult males with severe injuries, and search operations continue as more people are believed to be trapped,” Farinloye said. He added that the cause of the collapse remains unknown, pending further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) also confirmed the incident, reporting one fatality and four injured victims. LASEMA’s Director-General, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, assured that emergency responders, alongside heavy-duty rescue equipment, were actively working to locate any remaining survivors.

Rescue efforts remain ongoing, with authorities promising to provide further updates as investigations continue.

Peseiro Turns Down Kayserispor Offer

Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has declined an offer to take charge of Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispor.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Peseiro made his decision after discussions with club officials. The 64-year-old is believed to have considered Kayserispor’s current struggles before opting out.

The club is facing a financial crisis and has endured a poor run of form, failing to win any of their last five matches (four losses and one draw). They currently sit 17th in the league standings with just 16 points. Additionally, Kayserispor has been handed a transfer ban, preventing them from registering new players for the next three windows.

Peseiro has remained a free agent since parting ways with the Super Eagles in February 2024.

Transfer: Boniface Undergoes Medical Ahead of Al Nassr Move

Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface is on the brink of joining Al Nassr after completing his medicals with the Saudi Pro League club.

According to reports from Sky Germany, the Nigerian striker is set to sign for Al Nassr, with both clubs reaching a full agreement on a transfer fee exceeding €60 million.

Boniface is expected to earn a net salary of €15 million per season in the Middle East, where he will team up with football legend Cristiano Ronaldo. His arrival will fill the void left by Anderson Talisca, who recently completed a move to Fenerbahce.

Interestingly, Boniface had just extended his contract with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen until 2026 last week, securing a spot among the club’s highest earners. However, despite the renewal, Leverkusen did not deem him unsellable, paving the way for his high-profile transfer to Saudi Arabia.

January 28, 2025 Scholes: Rashford Should Be ‘Banished’ from Man Utd Dressing Room

Scholes: Rashford Should Be ‘Banished’ from Man Utd Dressing Room

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has criticized Marcus Rashford, claiming the forward has let down his teammates and should be “banished” from the dressing room.

Rashford, who has not featured for United since December 12, has been left out of the squad by manager Ruben Amorim for all but one match, where he remained an unused substitute. Amorim recently suggested he would prefer having 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital in the squad over the 27-year-old forward, citing Rashford’s perceived lack of effort.

Scholes, speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, shared strong opinions about Rashford’s situation:

“I think Marcus has let a lot of people down really, with his attitude, and I think that’s what the manager is trying to say. You think of the young players coming through the team, like (Alejandro) Garnacho—they’re looking up to people like Marcus now. He’s 27 years old and clearly not training properly.

“I remember years ago when I told the manager (Alex Ferguson) I didn’t want to play in a game against Arsenal. He told me, ‘The worst thing you did is let your teammates down.’ That stuck with me. I wasn’t thinking about that at the time, but now Marcus is doing something similar.

“OK, he’s not refusing to play outright, but through his behavior and poor training, he’s essentially saying he doesn’t want to be involved. Letting your teammates down like that in the dressing room is unacceptable. He should be banished. If young players see that as an example, the sooner he’s gone, the better.”

Scholes’ remarks echo those of former United defender Rio Ferdinand, who recently stated on his podcast Rio Ferdinand Presents that there is “no way back” for Rashford after Amorim’s comments.

Rashford, who publicly stated in December that he is ready for a “new challenge,” has been linked with clubs like Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and AC Milan during the January transfer window. However, his reported £300,000-a-week ($374,000) salary and a contract running until 2028 could complicate any potential move.

Rashford has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for Manchester United, but his future at the club now looks increasingly uncertain.
