NYSC DG Announces Corps Members Will Get N77,000 Monthly Starting in February

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that starting in February 2025, corps members will receive a new monthly allowance of N77,000.

Ahmed made the announcement on Thursday while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State. He confirmed that the increase has been included in the 2025 Federal Government budget and will take effect once the budget is passed.

“January has ended, but once the budget is approved, you’ll begin receiving N77,000 starting next month (February), instead of the usual N33,000,” Ahmed stated.

He also emphasized the government's dedication to the welfare and security of corps members, urging them to repay the gesture by serving with dedication. The NYSC DG reassured the corps members that they would not be posted to areas facing security challenges, stating, “We will not send our corps members to any areas with security concerns. Wherever they are sent, it will be a safe and secure location for them to serve.”

Paulo Fonseca Appointed as New Lyon Coach, Replacing Ex-Milan Boss

Former AC Milan coach Paulo Fonseca has been named the new head coach of Ligue 1 side Lyon, following the departure of Pierre Sage. The 51-year-old, a former Portugal international, has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract and will be tasked with leading Lyon, currently in sixth place, to a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Fonseca, who watched Lyon's 1-1 draw against Bulgaria's Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday alongside club owner John Textor, saw his new team secure a place in the competition’s last 16.

Sage, who was appointed in November 2023, arrived at a club struggling at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table. He managed to turn things around, guiding Lyon to European qualification and a French Cup final, though they were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain. Despite his successes, a recent poor run of five winless matches, including an embarrassing exit from the French Cup to fifth-division Bourgoin-Jallieu, led to his dismissal.

Fonseca, who was let go by AC Milan in late December, brings with him valuable experience, including a successful two-year stint at Ligue 1’s Lille. However, he faces the challenge of winning over Lyon's supporters, many of whom were fond of Sage and upset by his departure.

January 31, 2025 Prosecutors Accuse Diddy Combs of Trafficking Three Women in 20-Year Abuse Scheme

Prosecutors Accuse Diddy Combs of Trafficking Three Women in 20-Year Abuse Scheme

Prosecutors revealed on Thursday that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs trafficked at least three women over the course of his 20-year sexual abuse scheme. The accusations were made as part of a new criminal indictment filed against the hip-hop mogul, who is currently incarcerated.

The three-count indictment does not introduce any new charges, but it does allege that Combs transported three female victims, including commercial sex workers, across state lines and internationally.

This new indictment expands upon the original one filed in September, which identified just one female victim.

Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to the first set of charges, and prosecutors are requesting that he be arraigned again. His trial is scheduled for May 5 in Manhattan federal court.

In response, Combs' lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, stated: “Mr. Combs is as committed as ever to fighting these charges and winning at trial.”

The indictment includes charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. According to prosecutors from the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office, Combs used his business empire—including his record label, Bad Boy Entertainment—to exploit women sexually.

The alleged abuse included coercing women to participate in recorded sexual performances, referred to as “freak offs,” with male sex workers, some of whom were reportedly transported across state lines.

The new indictment also accuses Combs of abusing his employees and those who witnessed acts of violence. Prosecutors claim he enticed women with drugs such as ketamine, ecstasy, and methamphetamines, in addition to offering financial support, promises of career advancement, or romantic relationships.

Additionally, psychedelic mushrooms were added to the list of drugs allegedly distributed by Combs and his associates.

While the victims have not been identified by name, one is believed to be Combs’ former girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie (Casandra Ventura). Cassie previously filed a civil lawsuit accusing Combs of physical abuse, sexual slavery, and rape, but settled shortly after the lawsuit was filed. Combs has denied these allegations.

Prosecutors also referenced a 2016 hotel security video that shows Combs allegedly striking and dragging a woman who attempted to leave one of the “freak offs.” Combs publicly apologized after CNN aired the video last May, though his lawyer has argued that the footage does not constitute evidence of sex trafficking.
