The tragic incident happened on the Benin-Ore-Ijebu Ode Expressway.

According to reports, the victims were burnt to death after two commercial buses collided head-on and burst into flames. The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Samuel Ibitoye, revealed that preliminary investigations indicate one of the buses was driving against traffic, leading to the fatal crash.

“Thirty people lost their lives in the accident. Twenty-eight were burnt beyond recognition, while two initially survived but later succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital,” Ibitoye stated.

An eyewitness account confirmed the severity of the accident, explaining that the collision resulted in an immediate fire outbreak, leaving no chance for escape.

Ned Nwoko Resigns from PDP, Citing Internal Party Disputes

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party he has been a part of since its inception in 1999.

In a resignation letter dated January 30 and addressed to the party leadership in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nwoko expressed his disappointment with the internal turmoil within the PDP, citing deep-seated divisions and irreconcilable factions as the primary reasons for his departure.

"My decision to resign is primarily due to the persistent divisions and factionalism within the party. This fragmentation has made it increasingly difficult to promote unity and work towards the collective interests of our people," Nwoko stated.

He further pointed to recent incidents that underscored the party’s internal discord.

"Just this week, on January 29, key party officials engaged in physical altercations due to the ongoing factional disputes, which have now become irreconcilable," he revealed.

Despite his resignation, Nwoko expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided him during the 2022/2023 senatorial elections, which allowed him to engage directly with his constituents.

However, he emphasized that the party’s current structure in Delta State had hindered his ability to fulfill the promises he made during his campaign.

"Unfortunately, the existing structure of the party in our state is not conducive to achieving these commitments. After careful reflection, I have concluded that stepping away is necessary to fulfill my obligations to the people," he added.

Reassuring his constituents of his continued dedication, Nwoko affirmed that his decision was made with their best interests in mind.

"While I part ways with the PDP, I remain steadfast in my commitment to serving my constituents and advancing their interests," he said.

As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations and the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Sports Development, Nwoko reiterated that his focus remains on governance and service.

"My decision is guided by the best interests of those I represent, and I will continue working towards the progress and prosperity of our state and nation," he affirmed.

He concluded by extending his appreciation to the PDP leadership and members for their support over the years, wishing the party success in its future endeavors.
