Akpabio Alleges Natasha Engages in Fact-Twisting and Misrepresentation

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has accused Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central of twisting facts and misrepresenting the Senate on the global stage. Akpoti-Uduaghan, recently suspended for six months due to Senate rule violations, raised her grievances at the United Nations Inter-parliamentary conference in New York on Tuesday, alleging victimization, sexual harassment, and abuse of power by Akpabio.

Addressing the issue during Thursday’s Senate plenary, Akpabio condemned the senator’s actions, claiming she sought to tarnish the upper chamber’s reputation with a false narrative. He praised federal lawmaker Kafilat Ogbara for stepping in to correct the record, noting that Ogbara had informed foreign media that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s account diverged significantly from the Senate’s actual proceedings.

“She twisted the facts and escalated the issue internationally, embarrassing the Senate with a misleading story,” Akpabio remarked. “I commend Hon. Kafilat for setting the record straight with the global press, highlighting how different the senator’s claims were from reality.”

Akpabio pointed out that Akpoti-Uduaghan had initially submitted a petition to the Senate but bypassed its review process, opting instead to pursue legal action and international attention. “Such behavior might deter politicians from appointing women to prominent roles,” he warned.

Speaking after receiving a vote of confidence from his peers, the Senate President encouraged lawmakers to stay committed to their legislative duties and steer clear of distractions that could undermine their work. “I’m grateful for your support through this vote of confidence. Let’s keep our focus and avoid unnecessary disruptions,” he concluded.

Fubara Submits Fresh Request to Rivers Assembly, Suggests Wednesday for 2025 Budget Presentation

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has proposed a new date Wednesday, March 19, 2025 for presenting the 2025 state budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly. In a letter to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, the governor referenced his earlier unsuccessful attempt to deliver the budget on March 12, when he and his entourage were denied entry to the Assembly premises despite prior notification.

Governor Fubara explained that a soft copy of the notice had been sent and efforts were made to deliver a hard copy via the clerk, yet the gates remained locked. He stressed that his actions aligned with a Supreme Court ruling mandating him to present the budget and requiring the Assembly to operate within constitutional limits. He also noted that the House had previously given him a 48-hour ultimatum to submit the budget, even before he received the certified judgment and enrolled orders.

Reaffirming his dedication to effective governance amid the state’s ongoing political crisis, Fubara called on all government branches to uphold their responsibilities legally and prioritize the welfare of Rivers State’s citizens. “No matter how deep our differences, the interests of the state and our people must come before political disputes,” he emphasized.

The governor formally requested to present the budget on March 19 at 11:00 a.m., or at a time convenient for the Assembly, expressing hope that his proposal would be favorably considered.

Tensions between Fubara and the lawmakers have escalated since the Supreme Court’s directive for the governor to submit the 2025 budget to the Amaewhule-led Assembly. The situation intensified on March 12 when Fubara arrived at the Assembly Quarters only to find the gates locked by security personnel, who cited a lack of official communication despite the governor’s insistence that he had informed the lawmakers of his visit.

On Thursday, while commissioning projects in Okrika Local Government Area, Fubara appealed to Assembly members to prioritize peace and the people’s interests to resolve the political standoff. “It’s critical that we embrace peace at this stage,” he said, underscoring that a stable environment is essential for good governance. He urged all parties to move past conflicts and fully implement the Supreme Court’s February 28, 2025, decisions.

“The Supreme Court has ruled, and we must comply. By God’s grace, we’ve begun that process,” Fubara stated. “I appeal to everyone: let’s consider Rivers State’s needs. Peace and development are what we owe this state. I’m ready any day, any time, for total peace, because governance requires it.”

March 13, 2025 Court Issues Arrest Warrant for VeryDarkMan in Mercy Chinwo Lawsuit

Court Issues Arrest Warrant for VeryDarkMan in Mercy Chinwo Lawsuit

The Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has ordered the arrest of blogger Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), on charges of “criminal defamation” against gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. On Thursday, March 13, 2025, Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna issued a bench warrant, directing the Nigeria Police Force and other law enforcement agencies to apprehend VDM and present him in court to address the accusations. The order came after VDM failed to appear before the magistrate despite a summons issued on March 5, 2025.

VDM’s attorney, Deji Adeyanju, pleaded with the court to reconsider the warrant, assuring the magistrate that he would ensure his client’s appearance. However, Magistrate Iyanna dismissed the request, insisting that security agencies bring VDM to court. Speaking to Channels Television, Adeyanju confirmed the development, stating, “Yes, a bench warrant was issued against him for not showing up. It seems they’re more focused on a media spectacle than actually pursuing the case.”

The legal action stems from allegedly defamatory remarks VDM posted on social media, accusing Chinwo of being embroiled in a contractual dispute and claiming she was linked to the alleged diversion of $345,000 by her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, aka Eezee Tee. Chinwo countered these claims in court with evidence including emails and payment receipts demonstrating that VDM’s statements were baseless and harmful to her reputation. Her legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi of the Abuja-based firm Law Corridor, argued that VDM’s actions violated Section 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24(1)(B) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.

Additionally, Chinwo’s counsel has filed a separate lawsuit against VDM at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, seeking N1.1 billion in damages. The legal team is also requesting a court order to force VDM to remove the offending statements, issue a public retraction, and apologize for the allegedly false and damaging claims made against Chinwo and her brand.
