FIFA International Cup: Mbappe Celebrates Second Trophy Triumph with Real Madrid

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has shared his excitement after clinching the FIFA International Cup at the Lusail Stadium on Wednesday. The venue holds special significance for the French forward, as it was the stage for his memorable World Cup showdown with Lionel Messi exactly two years ago.

Back in top form, Mbappé delivered a standout performance for Los Blancos, scoring in their commanding 3-0 victory over Pachuca. The match marked his return to Doha, Qatar, for the first time since the dramatic 2022 FIFA World Cup final, where France lost to Argentina on penalties.

This time, the outcome was different, with Mbappé celebrating on the winning side. Taking to Instagram after the victory, the former Paris Saint-Germain star expressed his joy at lifting another trophy in the iconic stadium.

The Intercontinental Cup is back to Madrid. Second title of the season. This time I won at Lusail Stadium... #HalaMadrid,” he wrote.

Mbappé's latest triumph underscores his continued brilliance on the global stage, adding another milestone to his illustrious career.

December 19, 2024 Tottenham Coach Postecoglou: “Football Tougher Than Being Prime Minister”

Tottenham Coach Postecoglou: “Football Tougher Than Being Prime Minister”

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has compared the challenges of being a Premier League coach to those of a Prime Minister, arguing that football managers face greater scrutiny with "an election every weekend."

Speaking on Wednesday, Postecoglou explained the relentless nature of the job: “How many times does a Prime Minister have an election? I have one every weekend, mate. We have an election every weekend and either get voted in or out.”

Tottenham, who last won a trophy in 2008, currently sit 10th in the Premier League. Last weekend's decisive 5-0 victory over Southampton highlighted the precarious nature of football management, as it led to the sacking of Saints boss Russell Martin, just hours after Wolves dismissed Gary O’Neil.

On Thursday, Postecoglou’s side faces Manchester United in the English League Cup quarter-finals, a crucial match that he acknowledges could bring more scrutiny if the result doesn’t go their way.

Reflecting on the growing pressures of modern football, Postecoglou expressed concern about how managers are treated: “We’ve lost all sense of respect in society where people are still in jobs, and their replacements are already being speculated about. It’s become too easy to throw people in the trash and move on without any thought or care.”

He continued, “People say managers have always been sacked, but now it feels different. We forget there’s a human being involved. This is the hardest job in any walk of life. Politics may be tough, but this is harder. Few managers come out of this job without scars.”

As Postecoglou prepares for Tottenham's next challenge, his comments highlight the intense pressure and scrutiny that define the world of football management today.

Christmas: Dangote Reduces Petrol Price to ₦899 Per Litre

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a price reduction of its petrol to ₦899.50 per litre as part of efforts to ease transportation costs for Nigerians during the Christmas and New Year holiday season. This initiative, the company says, is designed to provide relief for consumers amid the festive period.

In a statement, the refinery’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, revealed that consumers purchasing petrol on a cash basis would also have the option to buy an additional litre on credit, supported by a bank guarantee from Access Bank, First Bank, or Zenith Bank.

“To alleviate transport costs during this holiday season, Dangote Refinery is offering a holiday discount on PMS. From today, our petrol will be available at ₦899.50 per litre at our truck loading gantry or SPM,” Chiejina said.

This marks the second price reduction by the privately-owned refinery in recent months, following a cut to ₦970 per litre in November.

The refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their continued support during the festive season. Chiejina reaffirmed the company’s commitment to providing premium-quality petroleum products at competitive prices that are both environmentally and engine-friendly.

He further noted that the refinery’s operations signify a turning point in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, as the country moves away from reliance on substandard and blended imported products that pose significant risks to health, machinery, and the environment. This initiative reflects the company’s dedication to ensuring Nigerians have access to high-quality fuel during a crucial time of the year.
