Lawsuit Alleging Jay-Z and Diddy Assaulted 13-Year-Old Girl Dismissed

A civil lawsuit accusing rappers Jay-Z and Diddy of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at a New York party in 2000 has been voluntarily dismissed by the accuser.

According to court documents filed in federal court in New York on Friday, the case was dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be refiled.

Reacting to the dismissal, Jay-Z described it as a victory against false accusations.

“Today is a victory. The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed,” he said in a statement shared on Roc Nation’s social media page.

He also expressed the toll the case has taken on his family, stating, “The trauma my wife, my children, and my loved ones have endured can never be dismissed.”

Obasa Takes Lagos Assembly and Meranda to Court Over Removal

Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has taken legal action against the Assembly and its newly elected Speaker, Mojisola Meranda. Obasa filed a suit before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, contesting the legitimacy of his removal from office.

In the yet-to-be-assigned case, Obasa is urging the court to rule that his impeachment was unlawful, arguing that his colleagues acted beyond their authority by removing him while the House was on recess.

According to court documents filed on February 12, 2025, by his counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), Obasa asserts that 36 lawmakers voted for his removal on January 13, 2025, while he was out of the country. He contends that this action violated constitutional provisions and the Standing Orders of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa is seeking the following legal reliefs: an order for an expedited hearing of the case, a directive limiting the time for the defendants to file counter-affidavits or written responses to seven days, and a restriction on the plaintiff’s time for filing replies on points of law to three days.

His arguments rest on nine legal grounds, including the interpretation of relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the House’s procedural rules. He argues that a legislative sitting during recess—without proper authorization from the Speaker—renders all decisions taken during that period unconstitutional.

Obasa insists that the case requires urgent adjudication to prevent disruptions in the legislative process. He maintains that the Assembly’s leadership transition was unlawful and that the court has the authority to fast-track hearings on such critical constitutional matters.

On January 13, 2025, more than two-thirds of the 40-member House voted to impeach Obasa over alleged misconduct and other infractions. In his absence, his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was elected Speaker, making history as the first female to lead the Lagos State Assembly.

Following his return to Lagos on January 25, Obasa addressed supporters at his Ikeja residence, reiterating that he was not afraid of impeachment but emphasizing that due process was ignored. He accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police of facilitating his removal, alleging that security forces stormed both the Assembly complex and his residences in Agege and Ikeja, locking his family inside with over 200 officers present.

Dismissing allegations of financial misappropriation, Obasa maintains that his removal was orchestrated behind closed doors while he was abroad.

No court date has been set for the hearing of the case.

FG to Establish ‘Power Rangers’ Task Force to Curb Electricity Asset Vandalism – Minister

Nigeria has decided to establish a special security unit to protect its power installations and infrastructure.

“We have decided now, in collaboration with the Minister of Power, to set up what we call the ‘Power Rangers,’” Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced during an interview on Friday.

The ‘Power Rangers’ will be a specialized unit within the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), tasked with preventing the vandalism of power infrastructure, which has been a major cause of blackouts across the country.

With increasing incidents of vandalism and public outcry over frequent power outages, the minister emphasized the need for a tailored approach to addressing the issue.

He explained that the decision to create the ‘Power Rangers’ was inspired by the success of the Mines Marshalls, a security initiative launched by the Federal Government in March 2024 to tackle security challenges in the mining sector.

“Before this administration came into office, the security of national assets was handled in a generalized manner. But we realized that a one-size-fits-all approach cannot work,” the minister stated.

“So, we decided to analyze each sector separately – the power sector, water sector, education sector, health sector – and establish specialized units within the Civil Defence to focus on each area.”

Although the decision to set up the ‘Power Rangers’ has been finalized, the minister did not specify when the unit will be officially launched.

However, he provided insight into the steps being taken to set up the team.

“We have already agreed on the operational framework, and as I speak, the officers are being screened,” he revealed.

“Keep in mind that we will have officers in all 36 states plus the Federal Capital Territory because every state has power infrastructure, just like in the solid minerals sector.

“We are currently in the process of onboarding these officers. We need to profile them, assess their capabilities, evaluate their competence, consider their areas of specialization, and even examine their physical strength.”

Ogun Government Shuts Down Adatan Market Over Street Trading Violations

The Ogun State Government has shut down the Adatan Market in Abeokuta following repeated warnings about the dangers of street trading.

Farook Akintunde, the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Chairman of the State Task Force on Environmental Compliance and Enforcement, made this announcement on Friday. He stated that the closure became necessary after traders ignored multiple warnings against selling on walkways, roads, and drainage channels.

According to Akintunde, these activities not only posed risks to the traders but also violated the state’s environmental laws.

“Beyond this, the traders have constructed shanties and makeshift structures on drainage channels. These are not only illegal but also contribute to waste buildup, obstructing the free flow of water and increasing the risk of flooding during the rainy season,” he explained.

He emphasized that the market would remain closed until traders clear the drainage channels, clean the market area, and sign an agreement pledging to cease all forms of street trading.
