Fani-Kayode Accuses Binance’s Gambaryan of Using USAID Funds to Finance Boko Haram

Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has accused Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan of being a conduit for funding Boko Haram through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

On Monday, Fani-Kayode labeled Gambaryan a "terrorism enabler" and "economic saboteur," dismissing his allegations against Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. Gambaryan had accused Ribadu of demanding funds for his political ambitions and claimed that some lawmakers requested a $150 million bribe—claims that have been denied by both the lawmakers and the Nigerian government.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Fani-Kayode warned that Gambaryan should prepare for “divine retribution.” He described the Binance executive as a “CIA operative, fiscal bandit, criminal, leech, vampire, and economic saboteur” while asserting that he played a role in using USAID money to fund Boko Haram.

“The long arm of justice will eventually get you for the atrocities you committed in our country,” Fani-Kayode wrote.

Farotimi: I’m Still Battling Four Lawsuits from Afe Babalola’s Firm

Activist and lawyer Dele Farotimi has revealed that he is still facing four separate lawsuits across different states, all filed by members of the Aare Afe Babalola law office.

Speaking on Sunday during the Toyin Falola Interviews, Farotimi disclosed that despite the withdrawal of criminal charges against him, civil cases related to the matter remain active.

His statement follows the decision of Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, the founder of Afe Babalola University, to withdraw cases previously filed against him. On January 27, 2025, Babalola agreed to drop the lawsuits after the intervention of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and other senior traditional rulers.

Farotimi had been arrested and arraigned in two separate courts in Ekiti State following a petition from Babalola, which accused him of defamation in his book Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System. As a result, he faced charges of alleged criminal defamation before the Ekiti State Magistrates’ Court in Ado Ekiti and alleged cyberbullying before the Federal High Court in Ado Ekiti.

Although the police dropped the criminal charges after Babalola’s withdrawal, Farotimi revealed that civil suits remain ongoing. “My inability to speak to certain aspects of this issue is borne out of the fact that, despite the discontinuation of the criminal proceedings, I still have four suits that I am aware of in four different states of the federation, filed by members of the same law office, against my person,” he said.

He further defended his book, insisting it was not based on baseless accusations but on thorough research and personal observations about Nigeria’s judicial system. “I did not sit down in a beer parlour; I was not at an officers’ mess; I was not gossiping. It was not idle, cheap talk. I wrote a book,” he declared. “Let us deal with veracity. Anybody can go and read it and then come back and challenge me with the lie that I have told.”

Nigerians Call for Probe Into Petrol Quality as Retailers Defend NNPCL

Nigerians are urging the federal government to conduct new tests to verify the quality of petrol sold at filling stations across the country. This comes after a viral video alleged that petrol from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) does not last long in fuel tanks. Despite this, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) maintained that NNPC's fuel meets industry standards.

The NNPC dismissed the claims in the viral video, stating that the petrol it sells does not have a high burn rate. According to NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, the company responded to the video, which suggested that NNPC petrol quickly burned out when used in generators. The video showed a comparison where a litre of Dangote petrol, purchased from the MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, lasted 30 minutes in a generator, while NNPC petrol from Ojodu Berger only lasted 17 minutes. The NNPC, however, clarified that the fuel at the Ojodu station was sourced from the Dangote refinery, which was later contested by refinery officials.

In response to the claims, NNPC rejected the allegations, calling the video misleading and based on unverified, amateur research. They further emphasized that a significant portion of their fuel in Lagos comes from the Dangote Refinery, which adheres to strict industry standards to ensure quality.

Many Nigerians, especially on social media, have called for an investigation into the claims made in the video, with some questioning why NNPC continues to source fuel from the Dangote refinery when the Port Harcourt refinery is operational. They have also urged the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Council and NNPC to conduct similar experiments to assess the burn rate of NNPC's petrol.

Some social media users debated the accuracy of the video, pointing out the possibility of other variables affecting the test results, such as differences between the two generators used. However, many others shared their personal experiences, claiming that the fuel from MRS stations lasts longer than NNPC's.

In support of NNPC, PETROAN has strongly refuted the claims of substandard fuel, stating that extensive testing by independent laboratories confirms that NNPC's fuel meets industry standards. These tests cover critical factors like flash point, density, viscosity, sulfur content, and water content, all of which were found to meet or exceed regulatory requirements.

PETROAN encouraged healthy competition in the industry and advised content creators to be responsible when sharing information that could affect public perception. The association expressed confidence in the quality of NNPC’s petroleum products, noting that the NNPC adheres to strict industry regulations.

Atletico Madrid Renew Interest in Wilfred Ndidi

LaLiga giants Atletico Madrid remain keen on securing Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi.

The Foxes previously turned down offers for the Nigerian international during the winter transfer window, prioritizing their battle to stay in the Premier League.

According to Caught Offside, Atletico Madrid plan to make another attempt to sign Ndidi at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Spanish club Real Betis and French side AS Monaco have also expressed interest in the 28-year-old midfielder.

Ndidi recently returned to action for Leicester City after a two-month absence due to a hamstring injury.

The Nigerian joined Leicester City from Belgian side KRC Genk in January 2016 and committed to a new three-year contract with the club last summer.
