Woman Explains Why She Tore Her Husband’s Passport

Mrs. Igiebor, the woman who tore her husband's passport, has spoken out, explaining the reasons behind her actions. According to her, ongoing family issues, which had persisted long before their return to Nigeria from Europe, led to the incident.

Igiebor, known for sharing content about her family on TikTok, made these revelations in a video on Monday. She stated, "This issue has been going on for a long time, and I had to do what I did. Don't just judge my actions without understanding the full story. I'm not a mad woman; I've endured a lot. I have my reasons.

"What if I had done this in Europe, where we were before? I didn't want him to face too much stress, which is why I did it in Nigeria. Many people at the airport that day saw me. It's been a longstanding family issue. My husband can't even speak about it. I’ve been with him through thick and thin, and now his family wants to undermine everything I've endured.

"To be honest, I did it so my husband wouldn't return to Europe. I've suffered enough. People don't know what I'm going through. He bought me an iPhone to calm me down, but this has been happening for years. He knows I haven’t forgotten, but I’ve been pretending to move past it."

Igiebor also apologized to Nigerians and the Nigerian Immigration Service for her actions, explaining that her husband's neglect of her in favor of his family had pushed her to this point. "My husband is his mother's boy, his sister's best brother, making me suffer as his wife. I did what I did to show him that I've been enduring this pain for too long," she added.

For those calling for her arrest, she said, "Come and hold me responsible. I cry every day after having three kids. They should let me reap what I’ve sown with him. My husband should come out and say what really happened."

Though Igiebor didn't provide specific details about the events leading to the passport destruction, she indicated that it stemmed from ongoing family disputes.

Previously, it was reported that Igiebor was seen in a viral video tearing her husband's Nigerian Standard Passport shortly after they arrived at Lagos Airport on Saturday, August 10, 2024. When questioned about her actions in the footage, an agitated Igiebor responded, "Is it your passport?"

In response to the incident, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has launched a formal investigation. The NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, stated on Sunday that the Service is investigating the matter. The NIS noted that her actions could violate Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), which prohibits the willful destruction of Nigerian travel documents. The Act outlines specific penalties for such offenses.

The NIS also emphasized its commitment to enforcing the Immigration Act to safeguard national security and preserve the integrity of Nigeria's legal and diplomatic instruments.
