Palmer Signs New Two-Year Contract Extension At Chelsea

Cole Palmer has committed to Chelsea by signing a new two-year contract extension, keeping him with the club until 2033, according to transfer expert David Ornstein.

Chelsea secured Palmer’s services last summer for £40 million from Manchester City, and he quickly made a significant impact. The winger outperformed all other players in the Premier League in both goals and assists, earning him a spot in England’s squad for Euro 2024. During the tournament, Palmer assisted Ollie Watkins' winning goal in the semi-final and scored the equalizer in the final, though England eventually lost to Spain.

Despite the scrutiny Chelsea has faced over its transfer strategy since Clearlake's acquisition of the club from Roman Abramovich, Palmer has been a standout success. In his debut season with Chelsea, he scored 25 goals and provided 15 assists across all competitions, establishing himself as one of the top players in the league.

Palmer is now a strong contender for the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Players’ Player and Young Player of the Year awards.

Tinubu Approves 300% Salary Rise For Judicial Officers

President Bola Tinubu has signed the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill into law, as revealed by Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

In March, President Tinubu had submitted a bill titled "A Bill for an Act to Prescribe the Salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits of judicial office holders in Nigeria and for related matters," seeking to revise the salaries of judicial officers, to the House of Representatives for consideration. By June, the National Assembly approved the bill, which included a 300% salary increase for judicial officers at both federal and state levels.

Lado emphasized that this move demonstrates the President's strong commitment to the welfare of Nigerian workers, similar to his recent action in prioritizing the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000 during a Federal Executive Council meeting.

The new Act prescribes updated salaries, allowances, and other benefits for judicial officers to align with current realities. It also amends the Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, No.6, 2002 (as amended) by removing provisions relating to judicial office holders from the previous legislation.

Lado praised the signing of the bill as a significant achievement and a clear indication of President Tinubu's dedication to improving conditions for Nigeria’s workforce. He highlighted the President's commitment to ensuring that judicial officers, as well as other salary earners in vital roles, receive fair compensation and recognition.

This decision, Lado noted, not only strengthens the integrity of the justice system but also sets a new standard for leadership that values the hard work and sacrifices of all Nigerian workers. He added that under President Tinubu’s administration, the welfare of workers has become a central focus, with policies aimed at uplifting lives, upholding the dignity of labor, and ensuring just rewards for those who serve the nation.

Lado also commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker Rt. Hon. Abass Tajudeen, and the 10th National Assembly for their efforts in passing the bill. He urged judicial office holders to continue their work in delivering swift and fair justice, reinforcing the judiciary as the hope of the common man in Nigeria.

Japa: Tinubu Approves Policy to Retain Medical Professionals in Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has approved the National Policy on Health Workforce Migration, designed to address challenges in Nigeria's healthcare human resources. Announced by Health Minister Prof. Muhammad Pate on Monday, the policy aims to manage, harness, and reverse the migration of healthcare professionals.

The policy envisions a well-supported and adequately compensated healthcare workforce, addressing the root causes of the exodus, such as poor working conditions, inadequate equipment, and low pay. Key components include the Nigeria Human Health Resource Programme, which will review working conditions, and the integration of advanced health technologies like Electronic Medical Records and telehealth to improve healthcare delivery.

It also focuses on continuous professional development, the reintegration of Nigerian health professionals from the diaspora, and reciprocal agreements with other countries to benefit Nigeria. The policy emphasizes work-life balance and mental well-being support for healthcare workers.

Governance will be managed by the National Human Resources for Health Programme in collaboration with state governments, ensuring responsible implementation. Prof. Pate highlighted that this policy is crucial for the future of Nigeria’s healthcare system and urged all stakeholders to contribute to its success.
