Nigerian Pilot Faces Five-Year Prison Sentence for Falsifying Statements in the U.S.

Olukayode Ojo, a 36-year-old Nigerian, is facing a five-year prison sentence in Texas after being convicted of making false statements to secure a certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Following the guilty verdict on Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Jodi Dishman ordered that Ojo be held in custody until his sentencing.

U.S. Attorney Robert Troester announced Ojo’s conviction on Monday through the FAA’s official website. Ojo was attempting to obtain a medical certificate required for piloting a commercial passenger aircraft, which led to his conviction on August 16, 2024.

Troester highlighted that this case was part of an investigation by the Transportation Security Administration—Investigations and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jackson Eldridge and Matt Dillon.

On June 4, 2024, a federal jury returned a two-count superseding indictment against Ojo for making false statements. The jury found him guilty on both counts on August 16, 2024. Evidence presented at trial revealed that Ojo, who is an FAA-certified commercial airline pilot, had previously pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor theft charges in Kentucky on February 8, 2023, related to stealing passenger luggage at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

In March 2023 and March 2024, Ojo falsely reported to the FAA while applying for an FAA First Class Medical Certificate, attempting to hide his prior criminal convictions. This certificate is necessary for piloting commercial passenger aircraft.

Ojo faces a maximum potential sentence of five years in federal prison and fines up to $250,000 for each count

Canada Bars Visitor Visa Holders From Applying For Work Permits

Canada has officially barred holders of visitor visas from applying for work permits while within the country. The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced this change in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the directive takes immediate effect.

“Although the temporary policy was initially set to expire on February 28, 2025, IRCC is ending it as part of our broader efforts to recalibrate the number of temporary residents in Canada and to preserve the integrity of the immigration system,” the statement explained.

The IRCC also acknowledged that some individuals had exploited the policy to mislead foreign nationals into working in Canada without proper authorization. However, applications submitted before August 28, 2024, will still be processed under the previous policy.

The policy, introduced in August 2020, was originally designed to help visitors in Canada who were unable to return home due to COVID-19-related border closures. It allowed them to apply for a work permit without leaving Canada. Additionally, those who had held a work permit within the preceding 12 months but had changed their immigration status to "visitor" were eligible to work legally in Canada while awaiting a decision on their new work permit application.

John Cena Reveals His Biggest Fear is Parenthood

American actor and wrestler John Cena has shared that his biggest fear is never feeling ready to be a “great parent.” The 47-year-old, who has been married twice but has no children, explained that he doesn't believe he'll ever be prepared to dedicate the time required to be an excellent parent.

In a recent interview with Club Shay Shay, Cena said, "My biggest fear is that I don’t think I’m personally ready, nor will I ever be, to invest the time it takes to be a great parent. I still have a lot to do and want to accomplish. I have a wonderful partner, and we've had open conversations about this. We share the same values."

Cena acknowledged that discussing this topic is challenging because it often invites judgment. "It's a tough subject to talk about because it immediately puts you in a category. People tend to judge. Human nature, we are all judgmental. But I operate under the construct that everyone is okay living their lives. I'm very happy with where I stand. I have a lot of joy and fulfillment in my life," he added.

Cena was first married to Elizabeth Huberdeau on July 11, 2009, but the couple divorced on July 18, 2012. He later married Shay Shariatzadeh, whom he had been dating since early 2019, in a private ceremony in Tampa, Florida, on October 12, 2020. Neither marriage resulted in children.

Nigerian Singer Dammy Krane Released from Police Custody

Nigerian singer Dammy Krane has been released from police custody after reportedly being arrested and detained over alleged defamation of fellow artist Davido. The news of his release was shared by social media personality Verydarkman (VDM) on August 29, 2024, through an Instagram post. In the video, Dammy Krane, newly released, is seen expressing his gratitude to VDM.

Dammy Krane's release came a day after VDM publicly pleaded on the singer's behalf, urging Davido to let him go. On August 28, 2024, VDM recounted an encounter at a police station where he saw Dammy Krane in custody. According to VDM, he had visited the station to thank officers who had assisted him in his work, when he encountered a man claiming to have seen a celebrity with dreadlocks in a cell.

VDM described his conversation with Dammy Krane, who alleged that Davido was responsible for his arrest. VDM later returned to the cell with bundles of cash to support Dammy Krane and appealed to Davido, saying, "I want to take money to him for food, but now I want to beg David—you’re my brother, not an oppressor. I know you have influence, but you cannot use it to keep him there. I beg you, this is not who you are, this is not your personality... please! Give this guy a second chance."
