Retired Claudio Bravo Could Step In for Injured Ter Stegen at Barcelona

Veteran goalkeeper Claudio Bravo has expressed his willingness to step in temporarily for Barcelona's injured Marc-André ter Stegen, according to a report. Ter Stegen sustained a significant knee injury during Barcelona's La Liga match against Villarreal, which will keep him out of action for an extended period.

Bravo, 41, retired in August after a celebrated career, having played for clubs like Colo Colo, Real Sociedad, Barcelona, Manchester City, and Real Betis. Despite his retirement, the Copa America winner is reportedly open to making a short-term return if Barcelona reaches out to him.

Ter Stegen was forced off the field after suffering the injury just before halftime, and was replaced by backup goalkeeper Iñaki Peña. Barcelona confirmed that Ter Stegen had ruptured the patella tendon in his right knee and would require surgery, which was scheduled for Monday.

Iñaki Peña, who renewed his contract with Barcelona in 2023 until June 2026, has a buyout clause of €400 million.

Bravo, who played for Barcelona between 2014 and 2016, retired on August 27. He started his career at Colo Colo before moving to Real Sociedad, where he spent eight years. After joining Barcelona, he competed with Ter Stegen for two seasons before transferring to Manchester City in 2016, followed by a stint at Real Betis.

During his time at Barcelona, Bravo made 75 appearances and won nine major titles, including two La Liga and Copa del Rey doubles, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. In an August 28 statement, Barcelona highlighted his success, noting that he played 75 games and won several major trophies during his tenure.

Barcelona Goalkeeper Ter Stegen to Undergo Knee Surgery

FC Barcelona has confirmed that their first-team goalkeeper, Marc-André ter Stegen, will undergo surgery following a knee injury sustained during the match against Villarreal.

In a statement released on Monday, the club announced, "The Barça goalkeeper will undergo surgery on Monday following the knee injury sustained in the game against Villarreal." Medical tests revealed that Ter Stegen has suffered a complete rupture of the patella tendon in his right knee.

The surgery is scheduled for Monday afternoon, and the club has promised to provide updates after the procedure is completed. The injury occurred in the first half of the match at Estadio de la Cerámica, when Ter Stegen awkwardly landed after collecting a cross from Villarreal. He was quickly substituted by Iñaki Peña after being visibly in pain.

Ter Stegen has been a pivotal figure for Barça this season, and his appearance in the Villarreal match marked his 289th game for the club, surpassing Antoni Ramallets to become the third-highest in appearances for a Barcelona goalkeeper.

Despite Barcelona's dominant 5-1 victory over Villarreal, highlighted by two goals each from Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, the triumph was overshadowed by Ter Stegen’s serious injury. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed his concern, saying, "It looks like a significant injury. You could tell immediately when he lay down on the field."

OOU Student Reveals Motive for Killing 18-Year-Old Female Church Member

Ayomide Adeleye, a 23-year-old philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), has confessed to the murder of 18-year-old Christiana Idowu, a female church member. In a chilling account, Adeleye, now in custody at the Lagos State Police Command Tactical Unit, explained that financial difficulties drove him to commit the crime.

In a report by Vanguard, Adeleye admitted that he lured Idowu, an industrial training student at Yaba College of Technology, to his residence under the pretense of fixing her phone. “I killed her because I had financial problems,” Adeleye revealed.

The incident took place when Idowu visited Adeleye’s home around 5 p.m. on the day of the murder. “She came to our house and asked me to repair her phone,” he recalled. Once inside, Adeleye grabbed her and suffocated her. “I squeezed her throat until she gave up,” he said, detailing the horrific attack.

After the murder, Adeleye buried Idowu’s body in a shallow grave behind his compound in the early morning hours. He then proceeded to extort N360,000 from the victim’s mother by falsely claiming her daughter had been kidnapped. “The first thing I said to her was, ‘Hello, madam, we have your daughter,’” Adeleye confessed.

In his desperation for money, Adeleye initially demanded N3 million but later accepted N350,000, which was deposited into his SportyBet account. He requested an additional N10,000 after the initial payment.

His arrest came after police traced the SportyBet account, which Adeleye had linked to his National Identification Number (NIN). “Once I uploaded my NIN, all my personal details—my location, my address, my name—were already on the account,” he said, acknowledging how his attempts to conceal his identity led to his capture.

Adeleye expressed regret for his actions, particularly the close relationship between his mother and the victim’s mother. “I don’t deserve any mercy for what I’ve done. I regret it deeply and ask God for forgiveness,” he said. He also admitted to contemplating suicide while in custody, stating that he sought ways to end his life but was unable to do so.

Adeleye’s confession has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for justice for the young victim, Christiana Idowu.
