“It’s a Fake Claim” – Bobrisky Refutes Allegations of Bribing EFCC Officials with ₦15m

Controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, has denied allegations that he bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

On Tuesday night, popular influencer Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, released a voice recording purportedly featuring Bobrisky, in which he allegedly confessed to bribing EFCC officials with ₦15 million. In the recording, Bobrisky claimed that the money was intended to persuade the officials to drop money laundering charges against him.

The crossdresser also stated that he never spent time in prison following his conviction and six-month sentence for naira mutilation in April 2024. Instead, he claimed that his godfather arranged for him to serve his term in a lodge rather than in jail.

In response to the controversy, Bobrisky labeled the viral recording as fake, asserting that he did serve his time in prison. In an Instagram post, he stated, “My attention has been drawn to a fake voice recording circulating on the internet claiming that I paid the EFCC ₦15 million and that I was never in prison. I didn’t pay any EFCC money; that is a blatant lie. I served my term in full and came out. Disregard any false information.”

Protesters Set to Storm Lagos Assembly Over Mohbad’s Death Investigation

Nollywood actor and human rights advocate Yomi Fabiyi is set to lead a peaceful protest demanding justice for the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as MohBad. Fabiyi announced on his Instagram page that the protest would take place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The protest aims to urge the state government to establish a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding MohBad’s death. Fabiyi alleged that those responsible for the singer's death are using large sums of money to cover up the case, distract the public, and hide critical evidence.

“We are confident the CCTV cameras inside and outside MohBad’s house were operational and that the footage is stored remotely, not via DVR. The builders of similar houses and the security team at Royal Pine Estate, Off Orchid Road, Lekki, hold the answers to where this footage is kept,” Fabiyi claimed. He expressed frustration with the police for not retrieving the footage and emphasized the need for government intervention.

He called on the people of Lagos State to press their elected representatives to step in, form a committee, and uncover the truth behind MohBad’s death. Fabiyi urged citizens to join the protest and speak with one voice, reminding participants to remain peaceful and orderly.

MohBad, a former signee of Marlian Music, died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, sparking widespread controversy. The Lagos State Police Command launched a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to probe his death, which led to the arrest of Naira Marley and Lagos socialite Sam Larry, among others.

MohBad's body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy. However, a pathologist later revealed that the cause of death could not be determined due to the body’s decomposition.

In May, it was reported that a US-based lab denied claims by the Lagos State Government that it had conducted toxicology tests on MohBad’s samples. The lab, NMS Labs, clarified that they did not handle the case, though a subsequent statement from the Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that the samples were sent to NMS Labs through another lab, ITSI Biosciences, and the testing was completed in April 2024.

ASUU Threatens Strike as Lecturers Issue New 14-Day Ultimatum to FG

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a fresh 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to address unresolved issues. ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, announced this in a statement on Wednesday, expressing frustration with the government's lack of commitment and use of delay tactics.

The ultimatum, directed at President Bola Tinubu's administration, began on Monday, September 23, 2024.

The statement read: “In light of these circumstances, ASUU has decided to give the Nigerian Government an additional 14 days, following the previous 21-day ultimatum, starting from Monday, September 23, 2024. By the end of this period, all lingering issues must be satisfactorily addressed for the union’s members.

"ASUU should not be blamed for any industrial unrest that may occur due to the government's failure to take advantage of this new opportunity to prevent the impending crisis.”

Fans Urge Dangote to Invest in NPFL Instead of Arsenal

Football fans have taken to social media, urging Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of Dangote Group, to invest in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). This follows Dangote's recent expression of regret over not purchasing Arsenal, an English Premier League club, when it was valued at $2 billion.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg’s Francine Lacqua in New York, Dangote explained that he chose to prioritize completing his refinery project in Nigeria over buying Arsenal. Reflecting on the decision, Dangote said, “I regret not buying it before, but my money was more needed for the refinery project than buying Arsenal. It was either I finish my project or buy Arsenal.”

The viral interview sparked a wave of reactions, with Nigerian football enthusiasts calling on Dangote to redirect his investment toward developing local football. Many suggested that his involvement could significantly improve the NPFL.

Owochejo Francis commented, “Why not establish a football club in Nigeria to create jobs and promote the local league? As Africa's richest man, your involvement could inspire others to invest in local football.”

Arong Usang urged, “Buy and sponsor Nigerian teams. The money spent on English players could easily support our local league. Follow in the footsteps of Ifeanyi Ubah—football isn’t limited to the English Premier League.”

Others suggested Dangote could take even bigger steps. Adeniyi Adeleke proposed, “Why not invest in the Nigerian football league by owning a team, building a stadium, and more?”

Several users mentioned specific clubs. Adeiza Valentine wrote, “Kano Pillars are available—it’s not too late to buy a local football club.” Johnbosco Nazic added, “Buy a club in the Nigerian league and transform it into a competitive force in Africa.”

Nze Chimereze echoed this sentiment, suggesting Dangote support teams like Kano Pillars, Rangers of Enugu, and Kaduna Warriors to help talented African players showcase their abilities. Kachi Phils added, “You’re looking to buy a foreign team, while local teams just need financing and polishing.”

Isa Oladele called on Dangote to follow the example of the late Moshood Abiola by owning a club in Nigeria. Aluko01 tweeted, “If you love football and Nigeria, invest in the NPFL—it will give the league a much-needed boost.”
